Ladies, I am not lying to you!
There is a race out there that exists where you run 13.1 miles and are greeted at the finish line with dashing men in tuxedo’s and pretty Tiffany blue boxes!
This weekend I ran the first NIKE Women’s Half Marathon in Washington D.C. and it is one that I highly suggest racing!
It all started attending the expo on Saturday morning!
It was right on the Georgetown Waterfront(one of my favorite places in DC) and had plenty of goodies for WOMEN! A BareMinerals Boutique, Victorias Secret sports bra fittings and so on! They also had a HUGE ” WE RUN” sign right on the water for photo ops as well!
After exploring the expo, everyone headed up the street to the NIKE store on M Street to buy all the essential race attire and accessories! NIKE not only created a wall leading up to the store with every racers name on it but also created an exclusive NIKE Women’s Half DC shoe! SO COOL!
Race day was gorgeous! With the sun peaking over the capital and being surrounded by thousands of strong women was really something else.
Before the race started, we all took a moment of silence to remember the victims of Boston before the National Anthem and I must say, I was covered from head to toe in goosebumps and emotions standing where I was standing and knowing a couple weeks earlier they were in the same place.
It was in that moment that I promised myself, whenever I got tired along the race, I would race for them and in honor of them and be thankful and grateful for the capable and able body.
One of my favorite parts of the race was running through the 14th Street tunnel. They had people playing drums throughout the entire tunnel! You could feel the vibration through the ground and off the walls. Everyone started cheering and you could just feel the energy being ignited around you! It was a great way to start and finish the race!
If you have never ran a race before which I hadn’t until this March, I must share my favorite part, which are the hilarious signs that people hold up along the way!
Here are a few of my favorites from this race:
“Where are you all going?”– funny because we are literally going right back to where we started.
“Please hurry up, my arms are hurting.”- from holding up the sign
“Mom hurry up, I want to go home and eat my birthday cake!” -clearly not what he was hoping to be doing on his birthday.
and last but not least… since this was an all women’s race the many single guys signs:
“This is my Match.com… along with his phone number.”
“Single and Supportive… along with his phone number.”
” This guy is single.. (arrow to his friend) with details of his personality, job and income.”
HILARIOUS! Loved the support!
But.. NIKE saved the best for last!
After running my 13.1 miles as if completing that wasn’t enough of a prize, we were greeted with gorgeous men in Tuxedos handing out beautiful Tiffany’s Blue Boxes! So of course, I couldn’t miss the opportunity to snap a picture with him!
This race has only ever been ran in San Francisco and we were so excited to be the second city NIKE decided to hold it in. Every race, Tiffany’s creates a new necklace for the racers and this one did not disappoint!
It was a phenomenal day and I am so thankful I had the opportunity to race it with my girlfriends!
I highly suggested getting a group of girls together to visit this race in DC or San Francisco next year! Completely worth it!
San Francisco 2014 here I come?
So proud of you! What a fun race 🙂 Looks like you had a great time!
